On this episode of Just One Q, Dominique chats with Kristin McCartney, Director of People & Culture at J.L. Richards & Associates. They discuss how employers can transition to data-driven, flexible frameworks when creating benefit plans. Kristin breaks down enhancements that benefit employees who are S2LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, Indigenous, first-generation professionals, or who practice certain religions. She argues that designing benefits for all signals a deeply supportive culture.
Kristin is the Director of People & Culture at J.L. Richards & Associates (JLR), a firm that provides high-quality engineering, architecture, and planning services to clients in both the private and public sectors. It is, not by accident, a Platinum Club member of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.
Kristin has more than 15 years of experience in HR, focusing on recruitment and selection, compensation management, leadership consultancy, and strategic HR innovation in professional services firms.
She has directed the creation of countless initiatives that aim to support talent and culture, including a formal career mentorship program, wellness campaigns, and leadership development programming. She co-founded and currently serves as the co-chair of JLR’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, spearheading new programs targeted toward the progression of equity-deserving groups, with a special focus on women’s issues in a historically male-occupied field.
She serves on a regulatory committee for the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) which guides the development of exam material for new HR professionals with a lens on the changing landscape of the laws and trends of the profession. She is a founding member of the HERizon Project, a community of practice for HR professionals co-creating tools and resources with the objective of progressing women’s workplace equity.
