Understanding the Historical Context of Black Lives Matter with Melissa Horne PhD

Melissa Horne has a PhD in Modern U.S. and African American History from Rutgers University, specializing in the History of Social justice movements. Her research has focused on historic systems of racism and oppression within universities and the way that students and faculty have organized movements to subvert and challenge these systems. In this presentation she speaks about the historical context of Black oppression, civil rights, protest and the Black Lives Matter movement to give us all the context we need to meaningfully understand, engage and act during this time.
