Just One Q with Dr. Melissa Horne Educational Podcast with Guest Selam Debs
EPISODE 14

Starting Your DEI Strategy With Anti-Racism | Selam Debs

How organizations can review their internal systems to ensure Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives are supportive and not unconsciously harmful.

In this episode of Just One Q, Dr. Melissa Horne speaks with anti-racism expert, Selam Debs on how organizations can review their internal systems to ensure Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives are supportive and not unconsciously harmful.

From Black Lives Matter, to outcries after the mass shootings in Atlanta and the global campaign against Asian hate, the message is clear—the world has become increasingly intolerant of racism and oppression in all its form and shades. This has caused a shift across different sectors, including the corporate space, where anti-racism is becoming a priority. Organizations have started to change policies and structures to ensure a better and more inclusive space for all groups of people.

While this is commendable, Selam Debs brings listeners to a place of deep reflection, challenging the status quo and providing solutions that hit hard at the root of age-long systemic beliefs.

In this eye opening episode, Selam sheds light on the concepts of racism, white supremacy, unconscious bias and what individuals and organizations can do better in their efforts against inequity.

In this podcast, she offers insights into how organizations can do the following:

  • Unlearn, re-learn and champion initiatives that genuinely address racism
  • Address harmful mindsets and cultures, and start real change
  • Retrace history by dismantling stereotypes and ideologies that have fueled racism and inequity for years

Ready to approach your DEI efforts with anti-racism at the forefront? Tune in to find out how.
